I. The Four Main Figures in the Bible
What is the third main figure after Christ? In Matthew 16, the Lord Jesus asked His disciples to tell Him who He was. Peter answered, "Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God" (v. 16). But this is not all. The Lord then said to Peter, " And I say also unto thee ." (v. 18). To only see Christ is not enough. There is the "also." "And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." So we have the Church as the third main figure in the Bible. (20)
